I wanted to like Rebel Moon. We made it pretty far in before I shut it off. What bothered me wasn't that it's derivative but that it clumsily borrows from other things I love. Star Wars is derivative of Dune, and I'm not against that sort of thing if they can establish their unique flavor. Star Wars manages that, but Rebel Moon feels like bits and pieces have been hewn from their hosts and sewn together into this confused mutant cherub that endlessly vomits and defecates acid on itself. Heavy Metal was supposed to be part of the inspiration for Rebel Moon. It felt more like a combination of Star Wars and Warhammer 40K. If we kept watching, I probably would have seen some mutated bits that secreted odorous bile that smacked of Heavy Metal and Dune. Rebel Moon made me want to watch Space Sweepers again as a palate cleanser, so that's a positive.
Today is my first day posting a new page in a few weeks. I still spent time drawing during my break, but I took it easy. I plan on this once every few months to relax and catch up on the shows, books, and games that endlessly pile up. Like Fallout, which I was worried would suck, but it is fucking excellent. I could write a comic about how nothing is annoying about it, but I just did one about X-Men '97 that was exactly that.
